Seahawks’ Executive VP and General Manager, John Schneider, expressed the organization’s sorrow, saying, “The Seahawks family and the 12s community are heartbroken over the news of Alex’s passing. His infectious smile and trademark river dance moves will forever be etched in our memories. Alex’s vibrant presence illuminated every room he entered, and he had a special place in the hearts of everyone here. He embraced life with enthusiasm, both on and off the field. As one of the most accomplished runners in SEC history, he left an indelible mark. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his immediate family, the Gatewood family, and his agent Kelli Masters. Alex, you will be deeply missed. From Jody Allen, Pete Carroll, Chuck Arnold, Chad Morton, and the entire Seahawks community, may you rest in peace, dear brother.”

Alex Collins initially joined the Seahawks in 2016 as a fifth-round draft pick. Following a stint in Baltimore, he returned to Seattle in 2020 and 2021, earning praise from teammates and coaches alike for his contribution to the running game. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll spoke fondly of him in 2021, saying, “He brings an incredible spirit to the team. He’s making great progress. I’m really excited about him.”

Beyond his on-field talents, Collins endeared himself to Seattle fans with his infectious smile and joyful demeanor. His signature Irish dance touchdown celebration, inspired by his pre-NFL days of perfecting footwork through dance, became iconic.

Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Collins attended Arkansas after an impressive career at South Plantation High School. One remarkable achievement, as often highlighted by Carroll, was Collins being among the select few to rush for over 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons in the SEC.

Alex Collins’ legacy as a Seahawk and a vibrant personality will continue to live on in the hearts of fans, teammates, and the organization he left an indelible mark upon. 🙏🏼🌟 #RememberingAlexCollins #SeahawksFamily
